Melasma is a skin condition manifesting as patchy brown, tan or blue-gray discoloration that usually appears on the cheeks, forehead, nose and upper lips. It is more commonly seen in women of ages 20-50, Asians, and darker skinned people. Sun exposure and hormonal changes due to pregnancy or birth control pills can aggravate the symptoms of melasma.
