Atopic dermatitis or Eczema is a chronic condition that causes red and itchy skin with periodic flare-ups. It is common amongst children under 5, but can also occur at any age. A combination of genes and environmental factors can set off eczema. Irritants or allergens can trigger the immune system, leading skin cells to react abnormally and cause flare-ups. In some long-term, severe cases of eczema, the skin may blister, “weep,” or peel.
